These ancestral lands were given to Lili‘uokalani’s mother Keohokālole during the Great Mahele in 1848 and later inherited by Lili‘uokalani when Keohokālole died. Queen Lili‘uokalani willingly shared this land with her people, greatly appreciating the beauty of the setting. The Queen did not divest herself of her inherited lands. Though her personal finances would have benefited, she kept her lands intact in sacred trust. Preserving the Queen's lands is a sacred duty of the Trust as expressed in Lili‘uokalani's Deed of Trust.
