Koryn Mahana Akina

Koryn Mahana Akina, the ʻĀina Based Educational Specialist for Kīpuka Kona, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to LT.

In addition to a Bachelor's in Healthcare Administration, she also holds a degree in Culinary Arts.

Before joining LT, Mahana was an instructor in the UH community college system for over 15 years and was the Director of Nutritional Services at The Care Center of Honolulu.

Her culinary background has led her to jobs in almost every genre of dining — including five-star hotel restaurants, bakeries, chef-acclaimed local eateries, and even a craft brewery.

What she hopes to share with LT ʻōpio are: reverence for Hawaiian culture and values, the incorporation of malama ʻāina, knowledge of mea kanu, the process of planting and nurturing growth, and the connection to wellness.

Mahana was raised in Hilo, and now lives in Kona, by way of Oʻahu. ʻIeʻie weaving is a passion and hobby, as are hiking and volunteering in Malama aina-Loko Iʻa, Kipuka kahuli.
