Makai Keahoulu blue ocean and shoreline

Paula "Kela" Tanaka

Kela joined Liliʻuokalani Trust in 2016 after serving with the State of Hawaiʻi, DHS-BESSD unit. Previously, she was an Account Clerk with Kualapuʻu Public Charter School, a Customer Service Agent with Aloha Island Air, and an Executive Assistant and Bookkeeper for Pacific Island TeleServices.

She was raised in Kaunakakai, pumping gas with her Grandma “Jake” and watching her Grandpa Jerome fix cars at their family-owned gas station, Kalama's Service. When she wasn't running around the station, she played on her grandparents' homestead feeding pigs, cows, and occasionally chasing chickens with her go-kart around the mango trees. Surfing, paddling canoe, and dancing hula was part of life in the Kalama household, and in middle school she found her love for basketball and volleyball.

Kela and her husband Keola have three children, and two grandchildren. They enjoy the laidback lifestyle of Molokai where outdoor adventuring isnʻt just for the weekends.

Kela is grateful to serve her community and to contribute to fulfilling the wishes of our beloved Queen.
